Political parties, as intermediate agencies between
the governments and the public, work in an environment created by
political and social characteristics of political systems. In other
words, in every political society, formal or informal, parties are
formed within a specific pattern which is called a party system.
One of the most evident characteristics of all
political societies is political activity of individuals within the
framework of political parties. In the glossary of politics, various
classifications for political systems have been submitted largely; based
upon the quantity of their parties or coalitions between their parties.
In the other words, the governors’ concern for the satisfaction of the
majority, a satisfaction which has its roots in the government great
efficiency, is undeniable.
Meanwhile, political parties can play a leading role
in balancing the public’s demands on the government and its potentials.
Thus, the major concern of every government is optimizing the capacity
of the political parties in order to attain an optimum efficiency within
its political system. This research, analyzing the relationship between
party systems and political efficiency, attempts to introduce a better
efficient system for the Islamic Republic of Iran. The examination of
functions of party systems, introduction of required factors to optimize
party systems and the application of every party system on the governing
system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, are among the issues to be
discussed in this study.
Assuming that in political and social conditions of
Iran, a multi-party system including two major political wings could be
much more efficient, this research attempts to study the history of
emergence and transformation of Iranian parties, their weak and strong
points as well as the common definitions of efficiency in party systems.
Lastly, it will be concluded that the establishment of a two-party
system in Iran will help the current political party system to have a
more efficient function.
