Abstract:

After the Islamic Revolution in Iran, an actor appeared in the international arena that claimed opposition to the bipolar system and in response to this approach, The East & West block in one of  their  rare companionships, proceeded in the way of controlling this new actor. The policies of USA and Soviet Union about Iran-Iraq war was an example of this approach.

The Islamic identity that I.R.Iran adopted was in contradiction with US and European interests. Because of this, these two actors which boasted of  their victory in the Cold War took hardest measures against Iran in case they felt a threat from its hegemony.

US & European countries have always opposed with the increase of  I.R.Iran influence and power in geo-economical Middle East, and if sometimes we have observed some differences between their policies, these differences have ended when they encounter threat to their interests in the region.

The US & EU emphasis on violation of  human rights in Iran, allegation on Iran`s cooperation with terrorism and claims about Tehran`s attempts for producing WMDs and atomic bomb are areas that show US & EU strategic unity against Iran. Although we can see some differences between US & EU in these subjects, or the European attempts at restraining Washington`s unilateralism and presenting themselves as an effective actor, they adopt and follow a common approach in response to Iran`s activities.
