Abstract:

In the earliest month after the Islamic revolution, some violent ethnic-centric struggles occurred in the regions Khuzestan and Kurdistan. As these ethnic struggles happened in the time of political instability, it may arises the question that if these unrests stemmed from spontaneous activities of the Arabs and the Kurds and originated from their nationalist tendencies after removing the control of Pahlavi regime?

Traditional presence of different clans in the Iranian history as well as their close relations show differences between the Iranian culture and that’s of the new countries and this will encourage the quest for the reasons of the abovementioned separatism. It seems that the emergence of the ethnic struggles in the period of political instability after the Islamic revolution has been rooted from the intervention of outer ethnocentric forces including the local and pro-western elites and also in forming such violent events, the above-mentioned clans have been prone to the transformations.

After the demise of Mohammad Reza Shah the above-mentioned ethnocentric forces highlighted the cultural and linguistic gaps between Arab and non-Arab, etc based on political, cultural and economic repressed demands of these people in the previous regime. Thus they tried to achieve a notable level of ethnic mobilization against the new Islamic regime by raising the ethnic aspirations.

The ability of the new Islamic regime to expand its authority allover the territory neutralize these efforts and weakened the position of ethnocentric forces in Arab and Kurd communities. Also in that time violence and radicalism of ethnocentric forces and activist that had a close and strategic relation with Iraqi regime, brought public hatred for them.

Regarding the effective solution for neutralizing ethnocentric groups in the recent political stability leads us to encourage Iranian national identity. To achieve this goal we should confront deprivation in these regions first. Moreover some multicultural initiatives can help improve the standard of interaction among various clans. All these efforts can help prevent isolation of these people in this country and their notice to the divergent identity.
