Abstract:
Middle Eas is one of the most important regions of
the world. This importance is due to its geopolitical, geostrategic
position and its natural resources, most notably gas and oil. Therefore
the developments and events of this region affects other parts of the
world, so any kind of event is watched and evaluated by regional and
international players carefully.
The convergence of Israel and Turkey in 1990s in the
aftermath of Soviet Union's collapse and Second Persian Gulf War came at
a moment which embarrased many countries, particularly Syria, Iran,
Greece, Armenia and Russia. The presence of these two improtant
countries in West allies circel , especially United States, discomforts
anti-west or even neutral players of the Middle East and encourages them
to come together as a reaction.
Some signs of counter-alliance formations have been
emerged. This atmosphere certainly will lead to some kind of a cold-war.
On the other hand the dangers of Turkish - Israeli
strategic alliance lie not only in their military, intelligence and
other partnerships, but also in the potential capacity of this axis to
expand to include nearby regions, especially Central Asia and even some
weak Arab countries, like Jordan and future Palestinian State.
This thesis will try to analyze the incentives,
motives and vested interests, which brought Ankara and Tel Aviv to
formal strategic alliance. So an aim is to predict implications.
