Abstract:

The main purpose of this research is theory building about institutionalizing innovation in Iranian defense industries; therefore we choose inductive approach to study successful and key experiences and projects in defense sector.

The grounded theory strategy used in this research will help analyze the phenomenon in terms of its core category, context, strategies and conditions. In summery the result of this research is presented in terms of "Defense Inno-creation" theory.

"Defense Inn-creation" is a set of institutionalized behaviors by which key innovations (Converting ideas to technological capabilities and effective defense system) are created. Thus Inno-creation is a special kind of innovation with these characters:

1- This innovation stream gains its power through tension of hope and despair.

2-"Defens Inno-creation" is accompanied with redefining of organization and its value chain through new projects and networks.

3- In defense inno-creative industries generating and developing idea is based on shortcuts.

4- Self attention, fortitude, resistance and commitment are essential characters of "Defense Inno-creation"

Defense inno-creative industries learn collectively, how to recognize and define opportunities and threats and how to recognize and define value creative options, solutions and ideas and how to convert them to effective defense system. Defense inno-creative industries through organizational self awareness and self attention continuously improve their innovation network to convert ideas to armed forces warfare ability. This improvement seeks better property, expertise, and knowledge and information management.

The most important driver of "Inno-creation" is "maturity of key role players" such as "visionary managers", "designer experts", and "fore customers". "Inno-creation" is emanated in some societal processes that called “industrial generation” the main consequence of "Inno-creation" is “Defense competency creation”. "Institutional environment" of innovation in defense industries and "forming the fourth wave of Iranian defense industries" are the context of "Inno-creation". "Structure and content factors" of defense firm and "the Iranian knowledge movement" are the main intervening conditions of "Inno-creation"
