Imam Sadiq(a.s.) University has been founded in February 1982, with the purpose of realizing practical connection between Howza and university, and to train devoted and expert students in academic and religious traditional sciences. The founding board members include individuals such as Ayatollah khamenei (The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran), and the Ayatollah Meshkini, Mahdavi Kani, Amini, Emami Kashani, etc.

ISU president is Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani.

In the beginning with official permission of the Cultural Revolution Headquarter, the University started with offering B.A. degrees in 3 different majors of:

- Islamic Studies and Guidance,

- Islamic Studies and Political Science,

- Islamic Studies and Economy.

In order to extend education beyond the mentioned majors and also to increase the level of education (in quantity and quality), ISU has created the followings:

- In 1990, "Islamic Studies and Management" and "Islamic Studies and Law" both in B.A. degree

- In 1992 PhD courses in 4 different majors:

- Theology

- Political Science

- Economics

- Culture and Communication

Now there are 64 students enrolled in these levels.

About The Objectives, Methods, and Plans of the University:

1. ISU puts ethical and conviction characteristics before mere scientific competence. The most important precondition for admitting students in ISU, are the moral and religious values along with strong willingness for education. The effort is given to have an ethical and religious atmosphere next to the academic liveliness.

2. For the purpose of making a good condition to select students wisely, ISU performs a pre – college entering gathering each year.

It makes the students familiar with the situation and how to study here during conversation with the teachers and people in charge of the university.

3. ISU Without using any governmental budget and receiving student fee, is managed by mere financial support of "Jameat-ol- Imam-e- Sadegh" institute.

4. Making Combination majors such as "Islamic Studies and Management", according to many experts, deserves much credit and carries high practicality in humanities.

5. ISU emphasizes on the teaching Arabic and English languages.

The academic and guiding excellent results of some students’ works push the university to continue its efforts in this field.

6. The Research Center of ISU is noticeably active in different fields of humanities as it helps students to get involved in research projects.

7. ISU is working with the great masters of the country in all different academic majors, either as full or part time professionals.

8. Until now 1143 students have been graduated from ISU in different majors while there are 1110 students studying at the moment.

9. At present time there are 20 non-Iranian students enrolled in ISU.
